What and Where: The closest mainland dining spot for many north island residents is Chill & Grill, just three miles beyond the Wabasso Causeway Bridge. This eatery, run by former Windsor executive chef Scott Burch and wife Csilla, is well into its second decade of serving creative, tasty dishes at very reasonable prices.
Ambiance/Atmosphere: Warm, inviting roadside bistro.
Must-Try Dishes: Calamari fries.
Adult Beverages: No cocktails; Short but adequate wine selection.
Reservations: Only for five or more.
Price: $$
Rating: Three and a half stars
Overall Verdict: While Chill & Grill offers nightly specials, a number of menu items have been beloved staples for years. The braised beef and the smoked brisket entrees are dependably wonderful. The shrimp and cheese grits are as good as it gets. On a recent visit, I once again enjoyed their famed house-made crab cakes. But when a steamed clam special is on the
chalk-board, we don’t even think about ordering anything else. No wonder Chill & Grill has such a loyal cadre of long-time fans.
