Vero Beach has a way of bringing people together. For the owners of 1301 Cape Pointe Circle in River Club at Carlton, the seaside town played matchmaker in more ways than one.

Jeannette Kendall’s and Richard Campbell’s paths to the Treasure Coast were serendipitous. He arrived after a golf partner in California “badgered him about moving to Vero Beach” throughout an entire round of golf.

“On the 16th hole, my husband said, ‘Well, OK, if they approve me, I’ll join Hawk’s Nest and find a spot there,’” recalls Jeannette. She, meanwhile, arrived on the advice of her mother, bypassing the congestion of South Florida for Vero’s quiet charm.

They met at The Pointe at Quail Valley and got married four years later.

While looking for a home with a boat slip, they looked at one property that had some appeal but felt too small. Hearing their concerns, their broker suggested the home on Cape Pointe Circle instead, which backs up to a lake and is just a few hundred feet from the Indian River Lagoon.

“And that’s what we bought,” recalls Jeannette.

“Refined lakeside living meets modern luxury in this beautifully renovated residence,” says Matilde Sorensen, broker-owner, Dale Sorensen Real Estate, of the tranquil, waterside location.

The home, built by Vero Beach developer RCL, offers the kind of volume and light they were seeking, and the couple has meticulously updated the property, fine-tuning the residence with new appliances, a new roof, a high-speed EV charger, a water filtration system, a fire pit and exterior lighting.

The result is a home that feels both grand and yet connected to its lush natural surroundings. The layout features elegant angles that frame the elegant exterior.

Double glass-paned doors with a transom open into the foyer, immediately establishing the home’s architectural character, featuring soaring ceilings, graceful arches and stylish angles that maximize natural light. To the right, double doors open into a handsome den.

The foyer leads to the living room, the heart of the entertaining space. The room is anchored by a gas fireplace and framed by French doors that draw the eye out to the pool and lake beyond. The formal dining room, located just off the living room, features French doors that open onto a side patio, further increasing the sense of connection to the natural world.

The floorplan flows seamlessly into the chef’s kitchen, which features a large central island, new appliances and a pass-through to the dining room. A bright breakfast nook with a bay window offers sweeping views of the pool and lake. It is one of the owner’s favorite spots for observing local wildlife.

“Two days ago, we had seven white pelicans swimming on the pond. There’s always something to see,” says Jeannette.

Conveniently tucked nearby is a temperature-controlled spirits vault with a wine cooler, along with a powder room and laundry room.

A covered breezeway that connects the main residence to the three-car garage is an architecturally appealing feature, making the structure lighter and more open.

The split-bedroom design enhances privacy. The guest wing houses two bedrooms and baths. On the opposite side of the home, the primary suite serves as a true sanctuary, with a walk-in closet and direct access to the screened lanai. The ensuite bath offers a luxurious dual configuration, with two sinks and WCs connected by a walk-through shower, one side featuring a soaking Jacuzzi tub and vanity.

Seamlessly blending luxury with high-tech efficiency, the home is a fully integrated smart home, featuring automated lighting systems that intuitively adjust and a high-speed EV charger in the garage.

“Outdoors, a screened lanai with heated pool and spa invites year-round enjoyment,” notes Sorensen of the exterior living area where a summer kitchen awaits for cooking and dining alongside the electric-heated pool and spa.

The expansive brick-paved deck surrounding the swimming pool offers a private, tropical retreat ideal for soaking up the Florida sun, with lush landscaping artfully arranged to frame the lake views while ensuring total seclusion.

“A heated pool and spa, screened lanai and light-filled interiors create an effortless indoor-outdoor lifestyle just moments from the beach,” says Sorensen.

Beyond the pelicans and the private pool, the home offers a lifestyle of convenience. “The HOA is probably one of the nicest around,” notes Dick, explaining that the association maintains almost all landscaping.

“It’s almost like being totally taken care of, which we love,” agrees Jeannette.

The location is perfect for golfers, too. “It’s a quick drive to Hawk’s Nest, Bent Pine or Windsor,” says Dick.

“It’s out of the center of town, which we like, and yet close to all the restaurants,” adds Jeannette.

Despite their love for their home and neighborhood, the couple is moving to The Moorings to fulfill their deferred dream of having a boat in the backyard. Leaving, however, is bittersweet since, according to Dick, they have the best neighbors in the world.

A guard-gated community, the River Club encompasses 120 acres of preserve with a 14-acre lake nestled among Old Florida oak hammocks. Situated among the natural environs are two clubhouses with full kitchens, two swimming pools, two fitness centers and tennis courts. The riverfront clubhouse offers suites that members can reserve for guests. The community has easy access to a public beach on the Atlantic Ocean to the east and to the Historic Jungle Trail, Jones Pier and Indian River Lagoon to the West.
