VERO BEACH, FL — January 5th, 2026 — The Veterans Council of Indian River County (VCIRC) will be relocating its office space to United Against Poverty’s (UAP) Indian River County campus during the month of January. This move marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between VCIRC and UAP, bringing both organizations together in a shared space designed to better serve veterans, their families, and community members facing economic hardship. The relocation reflects a shared commitment to collaboration, increased access to services, and long-term sustainability, creating a unified resource hub that strengthens support for those in need across Indian River County.
VCIRC will continue offering its full range of veteran-focused programs, including emergency financial assistance along with community resource navigation and courtesy transportation to medical appointments such as those at the West Palm Beach VA. None of these services will be diminished by the move; rather, they will be enhanced through proximity to partner agencies and expanded coordination with existing community support systems. UAP’s comprehensive programming — which includes its Member Share Grocery Program, crisis stabilization services, holistic case management, and workforce development initiatives such as STEP and Build UP — already serves individuals and families at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
The organization’s ongoing commitment to veterans is further demonstrated through offerings like its “Military Mondays” grocery discount.
The relocation of VCIRC to UAP’s shared resource campus represents a thoughtful and strategic approach to better serving the community. Through this relocation and strategic partnership, both organizations will create a more seamless, “one-stop” access point where veterans can receive not only veteran-specific assistance, but also connections to essential services that address broader challenges such as food insecurity, employment needs, transportation barriers, and financial stability. This partnership recognizes that the needs of veterans are often interconnected with the same economic pressures affecting the wider community, and it creates a more holistic and effective environment in which those needs can be met.
“This partnership represents the best of what community collaboration can achieve,” said Matt Tanner, Executive Director of United Against Poverty – Indian River County. “By welcoming the Veterans Council onto our campus, we are expanding the support network available to those who have served our country and ensuring they have easier access to the resources, stability, and opportunity they deserve.”
“Serving those who served means meeting veterans where they are and removing as many barriers as possible,” added April Colvin, Executive Director of the Veterans Council of Indian River County. “Relocating to the UAP campus allows us to strengthen our mission, deepen our impact, and surround veterans with a network of holistic support — all in one place. This collaboration ensures we are not just maintaining services, but elevating them.”
This move also reflects VCIRC’s deep commitment to fiscal responsibility and strong stewardship of donor resources. By reducing operational costs such as rent and utilities, the organization will be able to redirect more funding directly into critical veteran services, including transportation, emergency financial assistance, and essential home repairs. The decision underscores responsible leadership and positions VCIRC for long- term sustainability while expanding its capacity to serve.
