The annual Denim and Diamonds Hope Gala, an evening that blends elegance with heartfelt purpose, takes place at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Magnolia Manor, 7290 4th St., Vero Beach. Guests will enjoy cocktails, dinner, auctions and dancing to the local favorite Riptide, all benefiting pediatric cancer research through the American Cancer Society. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild is busy with shows and auditions. Its production of “A Christmas Carol the Musical” opens Friday, Dec. 5, and runs through Dec. 21. Tickets are $17.50 to $40. Auditions for “Cabaret” are at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8-10. All auditionees must be 18 or older. They should prepare 16 to 32 bars of a song in the style of the show and bring appropriate footwear and fitted dance clothing if auditioning for intensive dance roles such as Sally Bowles, the Emcee or the Kit Kat Girls and Boys. The Rotary Kids Triathlon begins at 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Victor Hart Park and the Gifford Aquatic Center, 4895 43rd Ave., Vero Beach. Children ages 6 to 13 will compete in a swim-bike-run race designed for a variety of age groups and abilities, including adaptive athletes.
