Hours & Address: Dinner 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
1517 Ocean Drive, Vero Beach 32963 | Phone: 772-234-2089

What and Where: For 15+ years, this bistro – called Ristorante de Mare until a couple of years ago – has been bringing authentic Mediterranean dishes to Vero’s South Beach. In chatting with guests, co-owner Edyta Zana always referred to her Parisian-born husband, Chef Jean, as “Frenchie.” Now you know how the restaurant got a new name.

Ambiance/Atmosphere: Stylish restaurant with modern vibe.

Must-Try Dishes: The fresh pompano is often a special when in season.

Adult Beverages: Full bar; nice wine selection.

Reservations: Recommended.

Price: $$$

Rating: Four stars

Overall Verdict: Whether you are in the mood for French dishes or Italian, this restaurant has long been a dependable choice. Steak and veal dishes are a highlight. Chef Jean’s classic French sauces are the real deal. On a recent visit, the grilled lamb chops topped with a port wine demi-glace were very tasty. The first local pompano of the season – pan-seared with a lobster beurre blanc sauce – was an unexpected treat. The black truffle fettuccine was sublime.
