Coming Up! ‘Lines in Lagoon’ puts young anglers’ skills to the test

The Lines in the Lagoon Junior Fishing Tournament will cast its net wide for students in grades K through 12 this Saturday, Sept. 13. The event offers young anglers a chance to compete between the Sebastian and Fort Pierce Inlets along the Indian River Lagoon. The fishing part of the tournament runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. at Walking Tree Brewery, 3209 Dodger Road, Vero Beach. Morning Star Church will host the Esther Product Shop from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. The Vero Beach Museum of Art invites families to take part in artmaking activities and sketching in the galleries from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. Also at the museum on Saturday, the Environmental Learning Center for a Living Lagoon will hold a special presentation at 11 a.m. Admission to these events is free. Beginning the same day and continuing through Jan. 4, 2026, the museum will present “Picasso and the Progressive Proof: Linocuts from a Private Collection.” This exhibit takes an intimate look at three of Picasso’s prints and their proofs, providing insight into his artistic process and groundbreaking creativity. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild is busy with shows, classes and children’s programming. Here’s what’s popping: A production of Neil Simon’s fast-paced comedy “Rumors” runs through Sept. 21. This is classic farce, filled with miscommunication, exaggerated situations, and the playwright’s signature humor. Tickets are $15 to $35. Actors 8 years old and older, heads up: The theater will hold auditions next week for “A Christmas Carol: The Musical.” Auditions begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15; Tuesday, Sept. 16; and Wednesday, Sept. 17. The show will run from Dec. 5-21 and is directed by Dee Rose with music direction by Karen Wiggins and choreography by Megan Callahan. Those auditioning should prepare 16 to 32 measures of music that showcase their vocal range, dress for movement, and be prepared to dance. Improv students looking to sharpen their skills can enroll in Unscripted Level II with instructor Scott Peterson, offered 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 26. The course, open to adults 18 and older for $75, builds on introductory improv training and delves deeper into scene work, character relationships, and advanced theatrical techniques to help participants create richer performances. And, finally, families with young would-be actors will want to know about the Elf Jr. Winter Intensive at the Theatrical Learning Center. Registration is open. The camp runs Nov. 21 through Jan. 2, and is directed by Dee Rose, Beth Shestak and Gregory Harris. The program is designed for students in third through eighth grades. It culminates with performances Jan. 2-4, 2026. Registration is $325, and scholarship information is available.
