INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Florida Highway Patrol troopers continue to investigate a wreck earlier this week where a car rolled off the interstate and slammed into a tree, killing a Connecticut man and a woman. The woman has not yet been identified.
The incident involving a 2025 Nissan Sentra happened about 7:47 p.m. on Wednesday along northbound Interstate 95 near the 152 mile-marker. The 58-year-old man from Guilford was driving the car and the unidentified woman was a passenger, according to officials.
For an unknown reason, the car veered off the roadway and struck the tree, highway troopers said. The Nissan became engulfed in flames.
“The driver and passenger were pulled out of the vehicle by an off-duty deputy before the fire reached them,” highway troopers said in a crash report.
The man was taken by ambulance to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, while the woman was flown to the same trauma center, said Richard Marini, assistant fire chief with Indian River County Fire Rescue. Doctors pronounced the man and woman dead at the hospital, highway troopers said.
