VERO BEACH — Residents are feeling the summer scorch, with heat index values – or ‘feels-like’ temperatures – expected to soar to 102 degrees on Friday, according to weather experts. Weather officials issued a heat advisory that will last until 6 p.m.
The hot and humid weather will continue into next week, said Robert Haley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
“For the next several days, limit time outdoors especially during the hottest part of the day,” Haley said. “Drink plenty of water, stay in the air conditioning, never leave pets or children in a vehicle unattended for an extended period of time.”
Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be sunny with highs near 91 degrees, according to meteorologists. The temperatures will dip in the evenings near the mid-70s.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will have highs in the low 90s. The temperatures will fall near the mid-70s by nightfall.
Tuesday and Wednesday will have a 60-to-70 percent chance of showers, meteorologists said.
“We’re well into the rainy season, but there’s still some drought areas in Vero Beach,” Haley said. The rainy season in Florida runs from late May to mid-October.
Heat impacts are usually felt between noon and 6 p.m., Haley said. The hottest part of the day is typically between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Haley said the temperatures are close to normal for this time of the year. Haley said the combination of humidity, along with the temperature, increases heat impacts.
“It’s going to be very warm…and very unpleasant,” Haley said. “Be safe outside. Even warmer conditions are expected tomorrow.”
