VERO BEACH, May 19, 2025 – On Friday, May 2, United Way of Indian River County hosted its Third Annual Trike Wars and Thank You Block Party at Sailfish Brewery in Vero Beach. The event brought together workplace teams, community members, and supporters for an evening of friendly competition and celebration.
Trike Wars featured high-energy relay races between teams representing United Way’s Torchbearer Workplaces—organizations that contribute $12,000 or more annually through employee and corporate giving. This year’s teams included Publix (two teams), Northern Trust, Seacoast Bank, the School District of Indian River County, Indian River County, The Hill Group, Merrill Lynch, and a Community Team made up of raffle winners Jordan Sartori, Aaron Vos, and Phil Barnes.
Publix pedaled their way to victory, taking home the championship trophy after a competitive final heat against Northern Trust and the School District. Publix also claimed the inaugural Trike Wars title in 2022.
The event opened with the National Anthem, sung by Gifford Middle School student Casey Watkins, and the races were timed by Brian Bryant of Runner’s Depot. Jeff Petersen (Merrill Lynch) and Justin Larson (Gould Cooksey Fennell) emceed the evening.
In the spirit of celebration, Indian River County used the occasion to promote its centennial with a cheering section and outreach materials. The School District brought major fan energy with matching bucket hats and race flags. After the races, attendees enjoyed live music from 60 West, food, drinks, and family-friendly fun during the street-style block party. Jeremiah’s Italian Ice donated a portion of proceeds from their on-site sales to support United Way’s mission.
This annual event marks the culmination of United Way’s annual campaign, honoring the volunteers, donors, workplaces, and nonprofit partners who help improve lives and create lasting change throughout Indian River County.
The 2024-2025 Torchbearer Workplaces include Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, The Hill Group, Florida Floor Fashions, Indian River County, Northern Trust, Publix, Seacoast Bank, School District of Indian River County, Space Coast Credit Union, Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, and the Bernard A.
