Riverside Theatre for Kids’ Student Touring Troupe

(Vero Beach, FL) Riverside Theatre for Kids’ Student Touring Troupe presents the beloved classic musical, Godspell JR. for one performance only on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Godspell is a show with music and lyrics by three-time Grammy and Academy Award-winner  Stephen Schwartz and a book by John-Michael Tebelak. In the show, a group of disciples help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of scenarios, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, are employed as the story of Jesus’ life is explored on stage and his messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Godspell began as a project by drama students at Carnegie Mellon University and then moved to the off-off-Broadway theater La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in the East Village of Manhattan. The show was rescored for an off-Broadway production, which opened on May 17, 1971, and became a long-running success. Many productions have followed worldwide, including a 2011 Broadway revival.

Godspell JR. is an abbreviated one-act version of the musical and is designed for performers aged 18 and under.

Student Touring Troupe productions are performed using minimal sets, costumes, and props to help tell the story. This type of show prepares students to use their storytelling skills in a fuller theatrical experience, while also giving the show flexibility to be shared with local schools and at community events.

Godspell JR. is directed by Kevin Quillinan, Director of Theatre Education at Riverside Theatre.

The performance takes place on the Stark Stage on Thursday, May 29 @ 7pm

Tickets are $10.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Riverside Theatre Box Office 772-231-6990 or online at www.riversidetheatre.com.
