Vero Beach Elementary Principal Lyndsey Samberg will bid her students and faculty adieu at the close of the school year to become a St. Ed’s Pirate as Associate Head of St. Edward’s Lower School.

The hire seems to be quite a get for St. Ed’s as Samberg is one of the local school district’s most successful young principals, praised for her innovation, problem-solving capabilities and dedication to the district’s Moonshot literacy efforts.

Samberg previously served as Fellsmere Elementary’s assistant principal, and as a second- and third-grade math and science teacher at Citrus Elementary, she was a school district Teacher of the Year and finalist for the state title.

“Lyndsey Samberg is an accomplished educator and leader with a deep commitment to improving educational outcomes and fostering community development,” a St. Ed’s announcement said.

One of the innovative projects accomplished on Samberg’s watch at Vero Beach Elementary was the Nutrition Kitchen, a community garden-to-table outdoor classroom developed with a $5,000 Indian River Community Foundation grant to the Education Foundation in 2022.

Since Vero Beach Elementary is one of the county’s poorest schools relying heavily on federal dollars for lunch subsidies, the program was designed to teach students how to boost their families’ food security and grow their own fruits and vegetables. The school also prides itself on its Student Showcase cultural and performing arts productions.

Samberg, 39, joins Dr. Louise Dunn, who took over as Head of School for St. Ed’s Lower School in August 2021.

Dunn said of her new recruit, “Mrs. Samberg was a stand-out candidate for a number of reasons, but the most compelling was her commitment to evolving innovation in education.”

Indian River School District Superintendent Dr. David Moore confirmed on Monday that Samberg would finish out the academic year at Vero Beach Elementary, and said he has yet to appoint a replacement.
