Indian River County (IRC) – Indian River County Board of County Commissioners would like to remind citizens that for the second year, it will host activities in support of Children’s Week Florida, which kicks off on Monday, April 14. Children’s Week Florida is the largest annual event held in the state that celebrates and honors its commitment to children, teens and advocates.
There will be several events throughout the week across the county, beginning Monday, April 14, with the Celebration of Hands, which offers children, youth, teachers, and families an opportunity to come together to create “handprint artwork” that will be displayed at the County Administrative Office, 1801 27th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
On Tuesday, there will be a community forum with experts discussing current data, existing programs, unmet needs, and opportunities to expand resources for early childhood success. The meeting will be at 3:30 pm at the IG Center, located at 1590 9th Street SW, Vero Beach, FL 32962.
On Wednesday, Storybook Village, will take place in Pre-K classrooms across Indian River County. The event promotes the importance of early literacy through engaging celebrity readings. “This is a favorite of mine,” said Cindy Emerson, IRC’s Director of Community Services. “It is an opportunity for staff and commissioners to interact with students across the county through readings in the classroom.”
On Thursday, Stretch, Breathe, Bond will take place at 6pm at the IRC main library, located at 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. This event provides yoga poses and mindful breathing, which allows children and families to relax, move, and connect as a family.
Finally, on Friday, Family Feedback, local organizations will join in friendly competition to gather family feedback and help strengthen services across our county. The organization that collects the most responses will win a staff breakfast!
“Hosting Children’s Week activities in our county is essential to fostering a community that prioritizes the wellbeing and future of our children. These events provide an opportunity to advocate for their needs, connect families with resources, and highlights the importance of investing in our youngest residents,” said Chairman Joseph Flescher.
