BREVARD COUNTY — A Sebastian man was critically injured and three others killed following a chase that ended with a Mercedes striking two tow trucks along the Interstate 95 exit ramp in Cocoa on Friday, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The man was fleeing from troopers and traveling above the posted speed limit at the time of the wreck.

An update on the man’s condition was not available on Sunday.

The passengers in the Mercedes – two women and one man – were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. A 39-year-old Palm Bay man was seriously hurt when the Mercedes hit the tow trucks while he was underneath hooking up one truck to the bed of the other vehicle.

There was no one inside the tow trucks at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The collision happened about 8:30 a.m. on northbound I-95 at the exit ramp to Kings Street near mile marker 201. Troopers said the driver of the 2015 Mercedes was headed north while the tow trucks were parked and unoccupied on the right shoulder of the exit ramp.

After the wreck, the Sebastian man and Palm Bay man were taken by helicopter to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, troopers said.

Troopers said identities for the Mercedes’ passengers killed were pending. The medical examiner’s office will contact troopers when the passengers have been identified.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
