INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man faces murder charges four months after fatally shooting a grandmother, her pregnant granddaughter and the unborn baby at a residence in the Highlands community, according to officials. Deputies previously described the incident as a home invasion.
Details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained limited as a judge ordered the case sealed on Tuesday. The sheriff’s office did not release a motive in the case.
Aiden Jacob Christman was arrested on Monday in connection with the triple slaying, according to Indian River County sheriff’s officials. Christman was held Wednesday on charges including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, first-degree murder of an unborn child and burglary of a structure/dwelling/conveyance with assault and battery, according to 19th Judicial Circuit State Attorney Thomas Bakkedahl.
Sheriff’s officials previously identified the victims in the Nov. 10 shooting as Shelby Baker, 19, and Amanda Baker, 68. Both women lived at the residence in the 600 block of 23rd Place Southwest, less than half-a-mile from the Vero Beach Highlands Clubhouse.
Deputies responded to reports of “multiple subjects being shot and stabbed” about 3:47 a.m. at the home, reports show. Detectives searched the area for evidence and surveillance footage.
Sheriff Eric Flowers previously said deputies responded numerous times to calls at the home last year. Flowers said the shooting was an isolated incident.
