In quaint Seaside, fine Florida home with California ‘chic’

When Eugene and Veronica Kelly discovered Vero Beach’s Seaside community, a one-street subdivision just south of The Moorings, they were instantly drawn to the “phenomenal Florida lifestyle opportunity” of living on a quiet lane just “steps away from a stunning ocean beach.”

After purchasing the house at 2215 Seaside St. several years ago, the Kellys painstakingly updated it to fit their needs and design preferences – both inside and out. Exterior upgrades included a new tile roof, gutters, metal shutters, high-impact garage door, impact windows and doors, spa heater and Generac whole house generator, as well as new pool-deck pavers and other improvements.

Interior upgrades included new doors and fixtures, a security system, new lighting, electrical outlets and switches, fans, appliances and the addition of a gas fireplace with a remote control.

The bathrooms, laundry room and kitchen were updated with new countertops, cabinets, fixtures and tiles – basically, a whole house makeover.

Fine details – including a cove ceiling, crown molding, columns, plantation shutters, built-ins and a chair rail – add to the home’s subtle elegance without diminishing the clean lines that give it a modern, contemporary feel.

They’ve created a “California-style, chic, transitional home with elegant finishes,” says ONE Sotheby’s broker associate Cindy O’Dare, who is offering the home for $2.1 million, co-listing with her business partner Richard Boga.

As you pull onto the circle drive, bright pops of turquoise catch the eye, evoking a sense of sun and fun.

The car park at the top of the drive allows access to the side-entry, two-car garage, the portico and the large, wood-framed, glass front door that welcomes guests and natural light into the home. Inside, the foyer opens into the formal living room with views of the pool and a lushly landscaped backyard.

Wanting to make the most of the garden views, the Kellys use this space as a dining room with a casual seating area in what was originally the dining room, demonstrating the flexibility of the floorplan.

The den, cabana bath and primary suite occupy the eastern wing of the house, affording the owners an abundance of privacy without being too far removed from the action when guests are in residence. The den’s proximity to the primary suite allows work to continue uninterrupted from the built-in desk.

Nearby, a door opens into the generous bedroom, offering pool views and privileged access to the backyard and spa. Custom dual closets with a built-in dresser buffer the sleeping area and the opulent bathroom, which features a soaking tub, walk-in shower, dual floating vanities with frameless LED mirrors and a water closet.

The communal living spaces and two guest suites are all located on the opposite side of the house, with access to the two-car garage, dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook, laundry room and family room, which features built-ins and a gas fireplace with quartz surround.

The updated kitchen features a clean, understated aesthetic with quartz counters, custom Shaker-style cabinetry, subway tile backsplash and new Bosch appliances. A large island creates a sense of separation between the kitchen and family room without diminishing the openness of the floorplan.

The outdoor area is accessed from several locations throughout the house, ensuring you can easily make the most of indoor-outdoor living.

Noting the beautifully landscaped outdoor areas with meandering pathways, O’Dare says, “They did a beautiful job creating intimate areas outside for eating and enjoying the pool and spa, affording the owners lots of privacy.”

From the covered dining area to the generous lounging areas alongside the saltwater pool and spa, the Kellys have created a peaceful and serene setting where it’s natural to relax. The lot next door is also available for purchase, if you want to expand your private oasis.

The Kellys say the “home offers fun for the whole family,” with its proximity to the ocean and a short drive to the Fort Pierce Inlet where “the water is gorgeous, and the fish are plentiful.”

The couple has enjoyed all the options for outdoor entertainment, whether it was sunning themselves poolside, hosting a backyard barbecue, spending the day at the beach at the end of the street, or launching canoes or kayaks from nearby Round Island Park.

The entire southern half of the barrier island is studded with nature preserves and parks, from Round Island in Indian River County to Fort Pierce Inlet State Park at the southern tip, overlooking those lively blue waters and picturesque boat traffic, with $50- and $100-million yachts cruising by on their way to refit at Derecktor Shipyards at Fort Pierce’s small port.

Additionally, the couple says they have an “equidistant short drive to fabulous shops and restaurants in Fort Pierce and Vero Beach,” ensuring they can enjoy the solitude of island life or engage in the local happenings with little effort, getting the best of both worlds.

Seaside is a gated, one-street community located on the south end of the island offering privacy and tranquility with 15 lots and only 13 homes. From there, it is a short drive to Ocean Drive shopping and dining or to Riverside Theatre and the Vero Beach Museum of Art for cultural outings. For families with children, Saint Edward’s School is nearby.
