Vero Beach Theatre Guild Presents Is He Dead? – A Hilarious Art Hoax by Mark Twain

Vero Beach, FL – The Vero Beach Theatre Guild is set to deliver an uproarious theatrical experience with Is He Dead?, a witty, fast-paced comedy by Mark Twain, adapted by David Ives. Directed by Patti Hall and starring audience favorite Nicholas Keeler as Jean-François Millet, this production runs March 21–April 6 and promises an evening of laugh-out-loud entertainment.

Originally written in 1898 but discovered more than a century later, Is He Dead? follows struggling artist Jean-François Millet, who devises a wildly unconventional plan to increase the value of his paintings—by faking his own death and assuming a new identity as his “widowed sister.” What follows is a whirlwind of disguises, mistaken identities, and riotous antics as his friends navigate the absurd world of art speculation, greed, and deception.

“This show is an absolute comedic gem,” says Guild President Dee Rose. “It’s a fast-moving farce that blends Mark Twain’s wit with David Ives’ sharp adaptation. Nicholas Keeler leads a fantastic cast, and audiences will be in for a night of pure fun.”

With a talented ensemble bringing the hilarity to life, Is He Dead? features elaborate disguises, rapid-fire dialogue, and classic physical comedy, making it a must-see for theatre lovers and comedy fans alike.
