The Vero Beach Theatre Guild is plenty busy. It presents “Buyer and Cellar,” a witty and imaginative comedy that brings to life a fictionalized encounter between an unemployed Hollywood actor and legendary Barbra Streisand in her underground shopping mall beneath her Malibu home. (That part is not imaginary.) The production runs Feb. 27 through March 8, offering audiences an evening of laughter and intrigue. Guests can arrive early at 7 p.m. to enjoy an upgraded bar menu featuring wine, local brews and non-alcoholic beverages. Select evenings will also include live music leading up to the 8 p.m. curtain. Tickets range from $29.75 to $35 and can be purchased at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild box office or online. The Guild is also on the lookout for creative minds to join their upcoming productions, including mainstage shows, black box performances and pop-up events. Positions available include directors, assistant directors, music directors and choreographers. Those interested must apply by March 10, with certain directing roles requiring prior experience or coursework in the theater’s Directing 101 course. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild is at 2020 San Juan Ave., Vero Beach. For more information call 772-562-8300 or visit VeroBeachTheatreGuild.com.
Just as busy is the Vero Beach Museum of Art. In addition to presenting world-class art exhibitions, the museum is serving up music and more. The Concerts in the Park series returns at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, with jazz pianist, singer and composer Mike Telesmanick serenading the audience with a mix of classic bebop arrangements and contemporary jazz stylings. Guests can enjoy a cash bar offering beer and wine, along with delicious fare from the Off the Hook Food Truck. Tickets are $10 for VBMA members and $12 for non-members, available at the entrance on the night of the event. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. The museum will also host Vero Beach Opera’s master of ceremonies Ian Campbell, who will show how Puccini and his librettists transformed Henry Murger’s “Scènes de la vie de Bohème” into the masterpiece we know today. The event will feature musical examples and behind-the-scenes revelations that even seasoned opera enthusiasts will find surprising. Tickets are $20 for VBMA and Vero Beach Opera members, and $25 for non-members. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the museum’s Leonhardt Auditorium. Then, on Thursday, March 6, the VBMA will host Art in Bloom, an event celebrating floral design and artistic interpretation. Guests can view exquisite floral arrangements inspired by museum artwork. The event begins at 11 a.m. followed by a noon presentation by esteemed designer and author Sybil Brooke Sylvester. A luncheon in the Buck Atrium will cap off the event at 1 p.m. More information is available at vbmuseum.org. The Vero Beach Museum of Art is at 3001 Riverside Park Dr. For more information call 772-231-0707 or visit VBMuseum.org.
