Vero Beach’s holiday season gets into full swing this weekend. From snow-filled street fairs to Irish musicals and cinematic symphonies, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Main Street Vero Beach’s “Downtown Friday” event will be extra special this Friday – a “Winter Wonderland” will turn downtown into a festive hub of shopping, dining and entertainment. There will be live music, dancing and food served up by local vendors. Santa Claus will be on hand as well to greet children. What’s more, there will be a “rare” Florida “snowfall” also. Winter Wonderland at Downtown Friday runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, along 14th Avenue. For more information, visit MainStreetVeroBeach.org.
Some of the best of Vero Beach’s local talent takes center stage with “Dancing on the Dingle,” an original musical written and composed by Larry Strauss and Dr. Jacob Craig. The show is directed by Mark Wygonik and tells the heartwarming tale of Professor Winslow Welk, a North Dakota anthropologist who embarks on extraordinary adventures in Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula and in Reykjavik, Iceland. There’s also a bit of the North Pole involved. Whimsical songs include “Bad Lads of Reykjavik,” “Lutherans are in Town,” “The Only Leprechauns in Dingle” and “Sing the Kringle Jingle.” This Irish Christmas tale should bring out laughs, charm and a sprinkle of holiday magic. Featured performers are Jeffrey Barkwell, Paula Bushell, Jacob Craig, Tara Giovannone, Phil Markley, Dee Rose, Larry Strauss, Carolyn Toohey, John Toohey and Robin Volsky. Performances will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, and Sunday, Dec. 1, at First Presbyterian McAfee Hall, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach. Tickets are $20 adults and $10 for children and students. Proceeds benefit the First Presbyterian Youth String Orchestra. For more information, visit Dancing-Dingle.com.
The Space Coast Symphony will serve up some holiday treats with their “Christmas at the Movies” multi-media experience. There will be live orchestral performances alongside clips from beloved Christmas films, like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “White Christmas,” “The Polar Express” and “Home Alone.” Younger audience members can look forward to highlights from “Harry Potter” and “Disney’s A Christmas Carol.” The concert begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Emerson Center, 1590 27th Ave, Vero Beach. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door, with free admission for attendees aged 18 and under or college students with ID. For more information, visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org.
