Jay Francis Brown, 74, Vero Beach
June 17, 1950 – November 15, 2024
Jay Francis Brown of Vero Beach, Florida passed away on November 15th, 2024, at the age of 74. Jay was born to Herman and Doris Curry Brown on June 17, 1950, in New Haven, Connecticut.
Jay earned a Police Academy Certificate from Indian River Community College in December of 1978 from the Center for Criminal Justice. He went on to work for the Fort Pierce Police Department from August 11, 1979, through December 17, 2005. In retirement, Jay worked as a security guard for Indian River State College from 2007 to 2021.
Jay was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police as well as a proud member of the United States K9 Association.
When Jay was not serving his community, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, white water rafting, K9 training, and traveling with his beloved wife, Karen.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Doris Brown, daughter, Stephanie Brown and father-in-law, Charles Mock.
Jay is survived by Karen Mock Brown (wife), Alecia Cedar (sister), Guy Brown (brother), Ora Mock (mother-in-law), Robin Johnson (cousin) and Charlee Brown (canine), Stepchildren: Andrea Dean, Rodgers (John), Andrew Dean (Michelle), Adam Dean (Jenna), Brother-in-Laws: Gregory Mock and Family, Victor Mock (Kim) and Family, Grandchildren: Jasmine Reed, Casey Dean, Jaiden Reed, Kailyn Reed, Liam Dean, Jalynn Reed, Emery Dean, Emmett Dean, Nephews and Nieces: Matthew Brown, Paul Brown, Michael Brown (Kate), Savannah Brown, Lisa Evans Marino (Darin), Great Nieces and Nephews: Nova Johnson, Dara Marino Medeiros, Nicole Marino Giana, Allie Marino McCormick, Brooks Brown, and Beckett Brown as well as five great great nieces and nephews.
A Visitation for Jay Francis Brown will be conducted on Monday, November 18th, 2024 from 6-8 pm.
On Friday November 22nd, 2024, at 10am central time or 11am eastern standard time a graveside service will be held at –

John Culbertson Grant, 91, Vero Beach
April 10, 1933 – November 6, 2024
John Culbertson Grant was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on April 10, 1933. His parents were Allegra Garrett Grant and Haswell Walsworth Grant. His family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1939, and then to Casper, Wyoming in 1951. He graduated in 1955 from the ROTC program at the University of Michigan, and then served for three years as an officer in the U.S. Navy. In college he fell in love with Janet Elizabeth Furst from Freeport, IL and they married in 1956. He received an M.B.A. at the University of Michigan in 1959.
He started his career in New York City with Halsey Stuart & Co., and he returned to Birmingham, Michigan for a distinguished career as an institutional and retail bond salesman and investment advisor. John was Chairman of the Board of Manley, Bennett, McDonald & Co, and a past President of many professional and community organizations including the Bond Club of Detroit, Financial Analysts Society of Detroit, Orchard Lake Country Club, and Chairman of the Board of the Municipal Advisory Council of Michigan.
John was loved by those who knew him, and he dearly loved the people in his life. Many acquaintances think of him as ‘the nicest person’ they know. He often put the needs of others ahead of his own, and he earned the trust and respect of a wide circle of family, friends, colleagues, and customers over more than 91 years.
John was an avid golfer, skier, and sports enthusiast who also loved playing bridge at his homes in both Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Vero Beach, Florida. He was married for more than 68 years to Janet, and they have three children: David (Leslie Grant), Laura (Mike Werkman), Stephen, and five grandchildren: Erika Moore, Ashley McWhirter (Ryan), Paige Grant, Caroline Grant & Allegra Grant, and two great grandchildren: Gavin and Grant McWhirter. John was predeceased by his parents and three older brothers: Garrett, Alexander, and William.
A memorial service will be held in Vero Beach at Trinity Episcopal Church on December 11 at 11:00am.

Diana L. Lower, 83, Vero Beach
April 21, 1941 – November 18, 2024
Diana L. Lower, age 83, passed away on November 18th, 2024, in Vero Beach, FL. Diana passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Diana is survived by her beloved and devoted husband Bill, her daughter Jodi (Stephen) Mahon, her son Stephen (Kelly) Lower, and her three grandchildren: Victoria Mahon, Sarah (Patrick) McNamara and Austin Lower.
She was born on April 21, 1941, in New Castle, PA to Angelo and Nancy Monsey. Diana met her husband Bill at Hughes High School. They signed one another’s yearbooks with a message alluding to their plan to be together forever. After high school, Diana following Bill attended The University of Cincinnati where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Diana was always destined to be a “teacher.”
Diana and Bill began their life as a married couple in August of 1963 remaining in Cincinnati, OH, where Diana made a loving home as they built a full and rich life for their family. In addition to leading her household as a devoted wife and mother, Diana also positively impacted the lives of other children as a Nursery School teacher for 15 years.
She spent many years being the best “MIMI” to her three grandchildren. She enjoyed biking, tennis and a good long walk. She loved living on the golf course at Coldstream as a member for 57 years where she hosted many friends and family.
With her children grown, Bill and Diana began spending winters in Vero Beach, FL. Later in retirement, they became full-time residents of Vero Beach where she was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Diana enjoyed a blessed life traveling with her husband, spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed riding her bike and playing tennis. Quiet strength, ever-present glow and a happy attitude defined Diana as she cared for the love of her life, Bill, and her children. Never one to complain about herself she was polite and kind to all to the end and is now received in heaven by her family and friends who have gone before her. She will be deeply missed by all that were blessed to have known and loved her.
