INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies released the identities of a grandmother and pregnant granddaughter who were fatally shot during a home invasion earlier this week in the Highlands. Sheriff’s officials identified the victims as Shelby Baker, 19, and Amanda Baker, 68.
The granddaughter’s unborn baby also died, sheriff’s officials previously said. Both women lived at the residence.
A third person at the home was injured, but deputies could not release further information.
Details on a possible suspect were not available on Thursday. Charges for the suspect will be determined after an arrest is made, said Lt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Information on the circumstances surrounding the double homicide remain limited because the investigation remains active, sheriff’s officials say.
Deputies responded to a 911 call about 3:47 a.m. on Sunday at the home in the 600 block of 23rd Place Southwest, less than half-a-mile from the Vero Beach Highlands Clubhouse. Deputies responded to reports of “multiple subjects being shot and stabbed,” according to a heavily redacted incident report.
Detectives combed the area for evidence and surveillance footage. Sheriff Eric Flowers said deputies previously responded to calls at the residence numerous times this year.
Flowers said the shooting was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public.
