John Wayne Conklin, 66

April 3, 1958 – September 16, 2024

John Wayne Conklin, a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, in Vero Beach, Florida. Born on April 3, 1958, in Yonkers, New York, John proudly served his country as a United States Air Force Veteran.

John’s memory will be cherished by his loving family: his son, Brian Apollonio, and Brian’s wife, Elsa; his grandchildren, Michael and Brianna Apollonio; his brothers, Gary Conklin, Kevin Conklin, Dan Conklin, and William Conklin; his sisters, Maureen Conklin and Khristine Brugger; and his nineteen nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Clarence William and Barbara Ann Conklin and his son Kevin Apollonio.

A graveside ceremony and burial will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 12 noon at the Assumption Cemetery, located at 1055 Oregon Road, Cortlandt, NY 10567. All are welcome to join in celebrating John’s life.

John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of service, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Darlene (Dee) Tousey, 80, Barefoot Bay

April 21, 1944 – September 18, 2024

On September 18th Darlene (Dee) Tousey passed away at home with her loved ones.  Dee was born in 1944 in Glendale, California and raised in Corning, New York.  She graduated from Northside High School there and also Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Dee and Ed have two daughters and two sons all of whom reside in Connecticut. She also has eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Dee and her husband Ed live in Barefoot Bay, Florida.

Dee worked for many years in the Purchasing Deptartment of Yale University as a strategic sourcing manager.

After Dee and Ed traveled around the country for awhile they settled in Florida where she was active in exercise, line dancing and bocci. She was also a member of the Eagles Club for several years. She enjoyed her dog walks, neighbors, and her family and spending time with her husband and watching UConn basketball

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 27th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming Street, Sebastian, Florida.

Edward M. Vesely Jr., 84, Sebastian

March 19, 1940 – September 19, 2024

Edward M. Vesely Jr of Sebastian, Florida, 30 year resident of Park Place, passed away on 9/19/2024.

Born 3/19/1940 (84) In Manhattan, New York to Dorothy (Van Etten) and Edward M. Vesely Sr.

He graduated Lindenhurst High School in 1958, then went on to serve his country in the Air Force from 1958-1962.

He married Lorraine Dougherty on March 5th 1966. She pre deceased him on 6/21/2021

He was a Police Officer with the Suffolk County, New York Marine Bureau for 26 years, during which time he was a volunteer firefighter for the Lindenhurst, New York Fire department. He also operated the Fire Island Ferry’s part time.

Ed was a man who was Always willing to lend a hand, a joke or a story to his friends. Everyone he knew spoke very highly of him. He was well loved!

He is survived by his partner Dolores Little, son Eric (Leslie) Vesely, daughter Heather (David) Bowen, sister Barbara Romano, grandsons Mathew and Brayden, nephews Michael, Christopher and Jason, nieces Linda and Beth, along with many other family and friends.

Gilberto Peña, 59, Fellsmere

May 27, 1965 – September 26, 2024

Gilberto Peña, 59 of Fellsmere, went to heaven on 9/26/24. He was born on 5/27/65 in La Yerbabuena Michoacan Mexico to Luis C. Peña and Alicia Peña Gamez.

At a very young age he came to the United States and Fellsmere became his home. His love for soccer was his downtime. His occupation for the last 10 years was a painter with L.B. Quality Painting Inc.

Gilberto is survived by his father Luis C. Peña; Eva Peña (sister) husband Sergio Hurtado, Evelia Peña (sister), Luis Peña (brother) wife Belinda Peña, Eduardo Peña (brother) wife Adriana Peña, he also is survived by 11 nephews and nieces all residing in Fellsmere. Deceased already is Alicia Peña (Mother) and Sergio Hurtado (nephew).

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1st from 6-8 p.m. at Seawinds Funeral Home. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2nd at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with burial immediately following at Sebastian Cemetery.

Cathy Lynn Kelso, 66, Roseland

March 10, 1958 – September 27, 2024

Cathy Lynn Kelso, 66 of Roseland, Florida passed away on September 27th 2024 at Palm Bay Hospital of natural causes. Cathy was born on March 10th, 1958 in Vero Beach Florida to parents Fred and Catherine Lewis. She was predeceased by her sister Susan Brock and her parents. She is survived by Kip G. Kelso Jr, her loving husband of 44 years, her daughter Coral K. Chesnutt, three grandchildren, her sister Deborah Barger, and her brother James Lewis.

Cathy attended Melbourne High School, graduating in 1976. She graduated from Indian River Community College in 1989 and went on to serve as a licensed practicing nurse for 13 years.

Cathy loved fiercely. Her family was her world. She was also possessed of an indomitable will.  A true force of nature in her community. She will be deeply missed by those close to her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to American Cancer Society in Cathy’s memory.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 4, 2024 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Seawinds Funeral Home in Sebastian Florida. A Celebration of Cathy’s Life will begin at NOON. Interment will follow at Sebastian City Cemetery.
