INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man stabbed his wife several times before turning the knife on himself Tuesday following an argument about divorce, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies described the domestic violence incident as an attempted murder-suicide.

The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries while the man died from his wounds, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday at their home in the 600 block of 10th Street, east of U.S. 1 and south of the Vero Beach city limits. The married couple – in their 60s – got into a dispute about their relationship and how it was leading to divorce, Jaworski said.

“The husband armed himself with a knife and proceeded to stab her multiple times,” Jaworski said. “Following this, the husband stabbed himself in the neck.”

The woman was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, Jaworski said. The man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

“Detectives and crime scene processed the scene and are currently investigating the incident.”
