32nd Annual Samaritan Center Soup Bowl Event Set for November 7, 2024

Enjoy a bowl of soup and purchase handcrafted pottery to help homeless families

(Vero Beach, FL) October 1, 2024 – It’s time for the 32nd Annual Soup Bowl, and the “SOUP IS ON!” The Samaritan Center will once again team up with its partners Indian River Clay, The Heritage Center and The Source to offer soup and pottery bowls on November 7, from 9:00am to 7:00pm at the Heritage Center, Vero Beach. The fundraiser features beautiful wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery bowls made by talented local potters from Indian River Clay.

In addition to the Heritage Center, over 25 Indian River County locations consisting of non-profits, places of worship and local businesses will once again participate making their own soups. Participating lunch locations will serve soup from 11:30am – 1:30pm and dinner locations will serve soup from 4:30pm – 7:00pm with many locations also offering pottery bowls.

“This is our most popular fundraiser because it allows everyone to help local homeless families while also shopping for one-of-a-kind pottery made by local artists.  It’s a great way to support Samaritan Center as we help families in our community transition from homelessness to living independently, said Renee Bireley, Samaritan Center Development Manager. You’ll help some of the neediest in our community, and get artfully crafted bowls for gifts, keepsakes, and as meaningful symbols of your kindness – all for a modest donation.”

The entire community is invited to stop by the Heritage Center or one of the locations throughout Indian River County to participant in this one-of-a-kind fundraiser.  Vero Beach Rowing, Brown & Brown Insurance, Coldwell Banker, Keller Williams, Vero Beach Police Department, The Community Church and First Baptist are among just a few of the locations serving soup.  A complete list of locations offering soup and or pottery bowls can be found at https://www.facebook.com/SamaritanCenterSoupBowl

“Indian River Clay potters will donate 1,000 bowls this year.  Our artists are proud to once again support this worthy cause. For the modest cost of a bowl of soup, you can help change the lives of homeless families in our community,” said Glenda Taylor of Indian River Clay.

Soups at the Heritage Center are donated by local country clubs and will be served by our community partner The Source’s Dignity Food Truck on November 7th. Other participating locations will serve their own culinary creations, all for a suggested minimum donation of $5.00 or $15 for a quart of soup. The hand-made bowls are available at the Heritage Center and select locations throughout Indian River County for an additional suggested donation of $20.00.

Vero Beach Heritage Center Executive Director Robyn Berry, said, “The Heritage Center was one of the very first, if not first, location for the Samaritan Center’s Soup Bowl. We are pleased to play a part in such an important community event. As Vero Beach’s first community building, it is a privilege to continue building community.”

All proceeds benefit the Samaritan Center which provides transitional housing and guidance to homeless families in Indian River County and prepares them to live independently.  The Samaritan Center is a program of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Palm Beach.
