The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform Big Band Favorites at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Emerson Center. The concert features Andrew Cleaver and the Space Coast Symphony Jazz Orchestra. They will play music from the Big Band Era, including that by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Count Basie. Modern selections will be from artists Peter Ellman, Sammy Nestico and Maynard Ferguson. Numbers include “American Patrol,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Maria” and “Besame Mucho.” The bandleader and saxophonist will be Andrew Cleaver, who will pay homage to Charlie Almeida, a founding member of the U.S. Air Force’s elite jazz ensemble, Airman of Note. Cleaver has toured all over the world and was lead saxophonist for the Air Force’s Glenn Miller Band. The program also includes a dedication to Marshall Frank, the writer/musician who founded the Creative Arts Foundation of Brevard. Also on stage will be Orlando singer Chase Shelleé, who performs with Underground Retro. That band is known for its “high energy feel with a smoky finish and vintage throwback.” She performs at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Orlando in its Bosendorfer Lounge. Other jazz pros on the stage will be Joe Eckert, who was the lead alto sax with Airmen of Note for 20 years; and Daniel Jordan, who was lead tenor sax for Maynard Ferguson and more. Organizers say “these are not your average musicians. Jazz Fans should buckle up for an experience they won’t soon forget.” The concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Emerson Center, 1590 27th Ave., Vero Beach. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Those 18 years and younger or with a student ID are admitted free. For more information call 855-252-7276 or visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org.
