‘An artist’s canvas’: Pool home set in intimate island neighborhood

default

As you travel along the meandering, oak-canopied streets of the Maroon Village Shores community in Indian River Shores, there is another surprise with each bend in the road in this intimate enclave where every house is different.

With just 20 homes, it is a quiet community, notes AMAC Alex MacWilliam broker associate Stuart Kennedy.

At the back of the neighborhood, 905 Holoma Dr. is just one house away from the ocean, which is easily reached via the backyard gate that opens onto a private footpath leading down to the deeded beach access.

Surrounded by a grove of palm trees and lush native greenery that creates a private oasis, the property features a brick-paved circle driveway with plenty of parking that leads to the columned, covered portico. You can also enter the two-car garage from the front of the house.

Under the portico, a pair of doors with decorative glass and sidelights opens into the receiving area with 19-foot-high ceilings and an open, light-filled, floorplan ideal for entertaining.

Kennedy shares that the size of the living area and proximity to the beach drew the current owners to purchase the home.

On opposite sides of the receiving area are a formal dining room and an office, which could serve as a sitting room, card room or library. Separated from the receiving area and the rest of the house by columns, beams and rock-filled planters, the format of the office and dining room provides for intimate spaces that don’t make you feel closed in.

Columns, niches, built-ins, indoor garden boxes and the various angles in the great room create a dynamic space made cozy with a fireplace, enclosed wet bar and a partial wall to create division between the recessed seating areas in the living room and family room.

Natural light floods the space.

A hallway from the living room, dining room, office and family room separates the common areas from three bedrooms – ensuring privacy for the family.

The family area includes the primary suite and two ensuite guest or children’s rooms. From the bed in the primary suite, you have poolside views through corner sliding glass doors, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Walk-in closets, dual sinks, water closet with a bidet, shower and garden tub complete the owner’s retreat, with skylights bringing in even more light.

One of the two ensuite guestrooms conveniently shares a Jack and Jill bathroom that’s also available to guests.

On the opposite side of the house are the two-car garage, laundry room, pool bath, pantry and kitchen. A breakfast nook overlooks the pool through sliding glass doors. With barstool seating at the kitchen counter and prep island, there is plenty of casual seating areas for meals. The kitchen is both functional and accessible to the interior rooms and exterior living areas.

Upstairs, an open loft offers the flexibility for an office, art studio, playroom, gaming or media room. The north-facing balcony is the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the sunrise or sunset and peeks of the vivid blue Atlantic Ocean.

“This house is an artist’s canvas. It’s got character, and you can make it exactly what you want,” says Kennedy.

Outside, the property features a large swimming pool and spa with multiple poolside gathering areas. Off the kitchen, the patio area is perfect for dining al fresco, while there’s plenty of room to lounge alongside the pool when you want to relax and enjoy the ocean breezes.

Near the gate leading to the footpath to the deeded beach access, a separate seating area allows the adults to enjoy a bit of space from the crowd so they can have a glass of wine with friends, a place to read without interruption or some quiet contemplation.

As you head out the back gate to the beach, you’ll likely encounter more wildlife than people.

The proximity to the ocean and easy access make early morning beach walks, family days in the surf and late-night turtle walks a natural part of your daily life.

Tucked behind the Village Shops, Maroon is the perfect location for families that prefer an active lifestyle. The pristine, uncrowded beach is mere steps away via two neighborhood footpaths, and the subdivision is only a few minutes from Ocean Drive for shopping and dining or Riverside Park, Riverside Theatre and the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
