In the complex historical and political realities of today’s world, we all need to seek and understand the truth behind important issues.  When a woman is faced with an unplanned or medically nonviable pregnancy, advice, counsel and help are often needed.  Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) purport to provide all of these.

But, do they?  Evidence of coercion, deception and ideologically driven policies make finding help and support a minefield of risk for many in need of it.  Also concerning is a major source of funding for CPCs: public tax dollars.

In 2022, concerned citizens associated with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach organized a group, the Initiative for Reproductive Justice (IRJ), to advocate for women’s healthcare rights in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.    In the November 2024 general election Floridians will decide the outcome of access to legal abortion in the state because of Amendment 4 to the state constitution.  It was successfully added to the 2024 ballot after a statewide petition effort.

The IRJ focuses on three areas of advocacy:   representation, education and services.  The IRJ is sponsoring the second annual community education event:

Treasure Coast Film Premiere

Preconceived

Saturday, September 14, 2024, 2:00 – 5:00 pm

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, 1590 27th Avenue, Vero Beach FL

a documentary about the pervasive and often overlooked influence of Crisis Pregnancy Centers

Audience virtual Q & A with the film director and producers will follow the film.  Preconceived explores the complex roles of faith, finances, deception and privacy involved with CPCs in a complex and shifting legal landscape.

Even though one in four women in the US will have an abortion, few talk about it.  Seeing their photos and reading their stories can begin to dismantle the stigma that surrounds abortion.  To that end, the film will be accompanied by the photographic exhibit:

Focus on Abortion – Americans share their stories,
