Man shot, killed; deputies investigating

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a late Thursday shooting that left a man dead with several gunshot wounds. There was limited information available on the circumstances leading up to the gunfire.

It was also not immediately known if investigators have identified a shooter.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting about 8:50 p.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of 43rd Street, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the agency. The incident happened not far from Macedonia Baptist Church.

First responders arrived and found the man with multiple gunshot wounds, Jaworski said. The man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The man’s name was not publicly released. Crime scene detectives were investigating the incident as a homicide.
