Ballet Vero Beach has invited the Pigeonwing Dance company to make their Vero Beach debut this weekend at Riverside Theatre. Their performance will be part of the Riverside Dance Festival. Pigeonwing is so named because of its “blend of airness and New York City grit.” It was formed by choreographer Gabrielle Lamb, who won a Princess Grace Award for her work. The group will perform “Rising,” a full-length work performed to live music. The themes explored in the dance will be humanity’s growing awareness of how it is connected to Earth’s oceans. The company describes its style as meticulous improvisatory abandon. Pigeonwing performs at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. Tickets start at $40 with discounts for children/students. Riverside Theatre is at 3250 Riverside Park Dr., Vero Beach. For more information call 772-231-6990 or visit Riverside

The Summer Art Show runs through Sept. 30 at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. The show is housed in three gallery spaces at the church and showcases the work of 10 art students from the Sebastian River Art Club. All of the artists have been trained by art instructor Sheila Lougheed and Suze Lavender, the curator of the church’s Galleries. The two teach the “Fix My Painting” class at the Sebastian River Art Club. “We have the distinct honor of showcasing the work of outstanding local artists in our galleries,” Lavender says. “This summer’s show focuses on talented newcomers to the art world, many of whom display a startling ability far beyond their years with a brush.” The galleries are open for viewing from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and on Sunday mornings between church services. Admission is free. The First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach is at 520 Royal Palm Blvd. For more information call 772-562-9088 or visit FirstPresVero.org.
