INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies want residents to remain vigilant after an unidentified person wearing a mask tried to assault two women in separate incidents. The events happened after dark in the Pointe West neighborhood, which is near 16th Street and 74th Avenue, sheriff’s officials said.
Now, deputies are asking the public to help identify a person seen on surveillance video walking in the same area when the attempted abductions took place. The individual on video matches the description of the suspect, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
The 9-second video shows the person, described by deputies as a male, walking on the sidewalk in the residential area. The footage shows the individual wearing a light-colored hoodie, dark pants with stripes on the side and a mask covering his face.
The first event occurred at 10:15 p.m. July 2 and the second at 12:12 a.m. July 7, Jaworski said. The footage is from the second incident, deputies said.
Deputies said the suspect tried to assault the women but ran off when they yelled for help and pushed him away.
