INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A motorcyclist was killed following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon, sheriff’s officials said. The wreck led deputies to shut down the roadway for nearly three hours.
The other driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to reports of a collision between the motorcycle and a vehicle about 4:16 p.m. in the 1300 block of Sixth Avenue, south of the Vero Beach city limits. The motorcyclist was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced the person dead, Jaworski said.
Details on which hospital the other driver was taken to were not immediately available.
The names of the drivers were not publicly released. Deputies closed Sixth Avenue between 12th and 16th streets.
The roadway reopened at 6:49 p.m., Jaworski said. The sheriff’s office traffic unit continues to investigate the wreck.
