WEST VERO CORRIDOR — A woman was killed and a man seriously hurt in a shooting at a residence late Sunday, sheriff’s officials said. Details on what prompted the gunfire were limited.

“This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public,” said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. “The names of the involved subjects are not being released at this time.”

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired about 10:19 p.m. inside a home in the 2000 block of 79th Avenue, north of State Road 60, Jaworski said. Deputies searched the residence and found two people with gunshot wounds.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Jaworski said. The man was taken by ambulance to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce with serious injuries.

“Our criminal investigations division is currently investigating the incident,” Jaworski said. “Updates will be sent out as information becomes available.”
