The Vero Beach Book Center’s Bubble Wrap Explosion kicks off at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 28. This family-friendly event not only features the therapeutic joy of popping bubble wrap but also includes Story Hour with Miss Erin and cool treats from the Kona Ice Truck. Riverside Theatre for Kids presents a condensed, 30-minute rendition of “Shrek the Musical,” showcasing the talents of young performers aged 6 to 11. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 29. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at RiversideTheatre.com. The fun for children continues at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, which presents “Puffs: A One-Act for Young Wizards” this weekend. The production features students from the TLC Summer Camp. The storyline follows a whimsical take on wizardry. Downtown Friday, hosted by Main Street Vero Beach, transforms South 14th Avenue into a bustling hub of activity from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 28. The community comes together for a worthy cause Saturday, June 29, at United Against Poverty’s 9th Annual Burgers & Brews event. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Riverside Park, Vero Beach, and will serve up gourmet burgers, craft brews, and live music by Metalucious. Beyond the culinary delights, activities include a classic car show, adult backyard games, an apple pie eating contest, and a free Kid Zone. Admission is free, with options to purchase slider punch cards and beer sampling tickets. Five slider punch cards cost $25 to $30 and tickets for unlimited beer samples cost $40 to $45. A VIP pass is $150 and includes air-cooled seating, private restrooms and more. Funds raised help United Against Poverty, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting poverty with education, empowerment and community engagement.
