The Environmental Learning Center has exciting events and programs to start the summer. From now until September 1st, they offer a buy one get the second one at half-price promotion on their award-winning pontoon boat eco-tours and paddle rentals. The ELC is participating in the Blue Star Museum initiative, which provides free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families from Armed Forces Day, May 18th through Labor Day on September 1st.
The last Brown Bag Lunch and Learn of the season is Wednesday, May 29th at 12:00 PM. Environmental Educator Sharon Tyson will share her insights into the intriguing world of manatees in the wild, examining behavior and the management challenges facing this endangered species. This event is free for ELC members. Guests can pay $10 admission and attend the talk as well as explore the campus before or after lunch.
Summer Camp begins June 3rd for nine one-week sessions and there are still a few openings for 1st through 8th graders. It is a great opportunity for students to have a “hands-on feet-wet” adventure and learn about native Florida wildlife and ecosystems. Details and registration information are on the ELC website.
The ELC will celebrate National Get Outdoors Day, also known as GO Day, by offering FREE admission to everyone on Saturday, June 8th. This nationwide event is held on the second Saturday in June and is sponsored by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and the U. S. Forest Service. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the trails and boardwalks, picnic areas, Mud Kitchen, and Imagination Station, and visit the Discovery Station and Touch Tank.
On June 12th, 4:00-6:00 PM, the ELC will host the author of “Haunted Indian River County” Larry Lawson for a book talk and signing. The author will have books for sale and share the experiences he had that motivated him to write the book.
On Sunday, June 16th, the ELC will have an additional FREE admission day to celebrate Father’s Day. Visit the ELC website to join one of the May or June scheduled Guided Kayak Excursions and see more events on the public calendar.
