Indian River County (IRC) – Upon the request of the IRC Emergency Services Director David Johnson, County Administrator John Titkanich signed an Emergency Order (2024-001) this morning declaring a local state of emergency and mandatory burn ban for all areas of Indian River County, prohibiting all outdoor burning that has not been specifically permitted by the Florida Forestry Service.
The Emergency Order and resulting Mandatory Burn Ban became effective today, May 7th, 2024, until further notice.
All outdoor burning of yard trash, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, outdoor fireplaces, chimeneas, and cooking fires are prohibited unless:
1) Authorized by the Florida Forest Service, or
2) It is for the cooking of food exclusively within gas or charcoal grill.
Furthermore, the setting of fires to any grass, brush, or forest-covered land, unless authorized by the Florida Forest Service, shall constitute a violation of this order.
