A golf outing with friends first brought the owners of 290 Bermuda Bay Lane in Bermuda Bay to Vero Beach 25 years ago.

“We had looked around at other places, and we thought Vero was special,” says one of the owners, adding that the privacy and quietness of the oceanfront drew them to the property.

Later, she adds, they realized how special it is to live on the ocean and hear the waves crashing on the shore. “There’s just something about it.”

“It’s rare to find almost an entire acre of oceanfront property at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac,” says Dale Sorensen Real Estate sales associate Cathy Curley. “This home is about a phenomenal opportunity. There is room on the property to build a guest house, additional garage space, home office or wellness center. The sky’s the limit.”

Lush vegetation envelopes you as you travel along the circle driveway toward the house. A sense of seclusion and tranquility overtakes you as you enter the house under a brightly, blooming bougainvillea archway.

Entry to the inner sanctum is gained through a heavy wooden door leading to the courtyard staircase, which ascends to the home’s upper level and main living area.

“What an entrance,” says Curley of the courtyard. “It’s so Florida with the palms, and it’s very fun to walk the halls in this house because they are light-filled, with windows looking onto the courtyard.”

Inside, a gallery provides a place to pause and take in the panoramic view as you head into the formal, oceanside living and dining room.

“While the home lends itself to entertaining, with a large great room that spills onto the poolside terrace through French doors, it’s also very cozy and warm for everyday living,” says Curley.

Noting the barrel ceiling and hardwood floors, the owner shares that members of the Pittsburgh Symphony visited the home for several years and loved the acoustics of the space.

“We’d move the table, and a sextet would set up in front of the window,” she adds, pointing to the breathtaking ocean backdrop.

“This gracious home is of very fine quality – designed by local architect Peter Moor and built by Croom Construction,” shares Curley, noting the abundance of fine-quality finishes and custom touches, including moldings, doorways and built-ins, throughout the house.

The livability of the house was a big factor for the owners. “It’s a very family-friendly place,” the owner says, noting they have a large family, and the layout comfortably accommodated their evolving needs over the years.

“You never feel like you’re on top of each other,” she adds.

The southern gallery houses an en suite guest room, library and primary suite, ensuring privacy for the owners.

Sliders open onto a covered porch and the pool area, giving way to ocean views, so you can watch the sunrise without leaving your room.

The en suite bath in hues of green and blue exudes luxury, with a shower, dual sinks, a water closet, a soaking tub and a walk-in closet.

On the opposite side of the house, two guest suites, a pantry, a powder room, the kitchen and the family room are conveniently arranged, with stairs leading to the lower-level media room.

“The current owners enclosed a porch and created a wonderful family room which is open to the kitchen,” says Curley. “This space is where they spend much of their time, cooking and relaxing day-to-day.

“Ocean views abound from this casual space as well,” Curley adds, noting that the double fireplace provides “both formality in the great room and warmth in the family room at the same time.”

There is a two-car garage, a “mud room,” and a laundry room on the lower level, along with a full bath and the media room with a kitchenette, which creates an inviting space for the grandkids to play or watch movies as well as a perfect spot to accommodate overflow guests.

You can access the outside from either level of the house. On the ground floor, it’s easy to head out to the beach, and on the upper level, the heated pool and spa are just steps away from a walk in the sand after crossing the private dune crossover.

“This is a tremendous value proposition given what other oceanfront properties of this caliber have sold for recently in Vero Beach,” says Curley. “After all, they’re not making more oceanfront.”

“This stretch of beach feels very private and serene, yet you are still very near the finest shops and restaurants in Vero Beach,” adds Curley.

“There’s never anyone on the beach. It’s really your own private beach,” says the owner.

Bermuda Bay is a guard-gated community located in Indian River Shores. Community amenities include a heated pool, tennis courts, clubhouse and deeded beach access. Just outside the gates of Bermuda Bay, the Indian River Shores Public Safety Department offers police, fire and emergency medical services; and the Village Shops and beach are only a short walk away. It’s only a few minutes’ drive to Ocean Drive shopping and dining, Riverside Park, Riverside Theatre and the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
