YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach Youth Sailors Conquer Gale Force Winds at 2024 Club 420 Class Midwinter Sailing Championships

Vero Beach, FL — February 29, 2024 — YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach proudly announces the outstanding performance of its youth sailors, Edee Steinkamp, Mike Ladd, and Alex Delamarter, at the 2024 Club 420 Midwinter Championships. Hosted at the US Sailing Center Martin County
in Jensen Beach, FL from February 17th to 19th, 2024, the competition witnessed formidable challenges with fierce North winds peaking at 30 knots, resulting in only 14 out of 50 boats completing the course.

Despite these daunting conditions, Edee and Mike showcased exceptional skill and determination, clinching YSF Team Vero Beach’s inaugural victory in such a prestigious event. Their triumph in the Bronze fleet underscores their resilience and expertise, securing them third place overall in the Bronze Fleet out of 150 competing youth sailors across Gold, Silver, and Bronze fleets.

YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach extends heartfelt congratulations to youth sailor Alex Delamarter for his stellar performance in the race. Alex’s commendable placement in the Silver Fleet is a testament to the dedication fostered within our program.

We extend our gratitude to 420 Sailing Coach Herminio Agront for his invaluable guidance throughout the season. His admirable skills and dedication have been instrumental in the development of our sailors.

The tenacity exhibited by our young sailors serves as a source of inspiration, and their unwavering courage reflects the ethos of YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach.

“We are immensely proud of Edee, Alex, Mike, and Coach Herm for their remarkable achievements,” said Skip Willauer, Acting 420 Coach and Board Member of YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach. “Their success reflects not only their individual sailing skills but also the exceptional coaching provided by our youth sailing program.”

The Club 420 Midwinter Championships brings together top sailors nationwide for intense competition. Participants hail from diverse regions like California, New England, and beyond, making it a very challenging event.
