Indian River County to Join Statewide Celebration for Children’s Week Florida

Indian River County – Indian River County proudly announces its inaugural participation in Celebrate  Children’s Week Florida, joining in a vibrant array of activities from February 26th to March 1st. This  marks a significant milestone for the county as it embraces this statewide celebration for the first time.

The week-long festivities kick off with “In Our Hands” on Monday, a collaborative effort where children,  youth, teachers, and families create unique hand artwork to be showcased in the State Capitol. Indian  River County’s public libraries and local pre-K classrooms have crafted special hand art pieces to send  to Tallahassee. Prior to sending, the art will be displayed outside the Board of County Commissioners  Chambers.

Tuesday welcomes the enchanting “Storybook Village,” where books spring to life with celebrity  readers, song, dance, and hands-on activities. Indian River County presents its very own Storybook  Village, inspired by the magic unfolding across Florida.

“The Commission always embraces the opportunity to interact with our children in the community. I am  looking forward to being a guest reader at the main library,” said Commissioner Joseph Flescher.  “Children ask the most intriguing questions. I think we learn more from them than they learn from us.”

“Teen Day” on Wednesday amplifies the voices of young adults with the launch of an online survey,  gathering insights into the hopes and dreams of the youth in Indian River County.

“Thoughtful Thursday” brings a virtual gathering via Zoom, connecting attendees statewide to explore  insightful webinars hosted by esteemed partners and advocates.

The highlight of the week is the Golden Impact Recognition event on Friday, hosted by Indian River  County for the first time at the Intergenerational Recreation Center of IRC from 2:30 to 4:00. This special  event features guest speakers and the announcement of Golden Impact Recognition for outstanding  agencies, library programs, and parks and recreation programs throughout the county.

“This week marks a significant milestone for Indian River County as we proudly debut our participation  in Celebrate Children’s Week Florida,” said Cindy Emerson, Director of Community Services. “This  week-long celebration underscores our unwavering dedication to nurturing the well-being and fostering  the success of our children and youth. Through the Golden Impact Recognition event, we will shine a  spotlight on the variety of non-profits, along with our Indian River County programs, that tirelessly  impact the lives of our families and youth. It’s an opportunity for us to celebrate and empower our  community.”
