YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach Hosts Successful Family Sailing Event

YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach proudly hosted a memorable Family Sailing Event on Sunday, February 11, 2024, bringing together individuals, families, volunteers, and staff for a day of sailing enjoyment.

The event featured two exhilarating sessions of afternoon family sailing, showcasing our impressive fleet of Hobie® catamarans, mariners, daysailers, dinghies, and our latest addition, the Flying Scot® sailboat. Participants of all ages reveled in the opportunity to sail across the waters of the Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach, soaking in the sun and sea breeze.

Following the invigorating sails, attendees gathered on the shore under the shade of the YSF outdoor pavilion. There, they indulged in refreshing beverages and light snacks until the sun set while reliving their favorite moments from the day’s adventures.

“We were thrilled to see families come together to experience the joy of sailing,” said Chris Drake, Executive Director of YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach. “It’s heartwarming to witness the sense of camaraderie and excitement that sailing fosters among our community.”

The success of the Family Sailing Event underscores YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach’s commitment to promoting sailing and fostering community connections. For those interested in becoming part of our sailing community, YSF Community Sailing offers various learning and membership options, including free sailing lessons for the youth of Indian River County, private sailing lessons for adults and children ages 8-18, and specialized programs catering to individuals with special needs.

About YSF Community Sailing Vero Beach

We’re a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing free sailing instruction to the children of Indian River County. At YSF, we believe that sailing offers an adventure for a lifetime, teaching valuable life skills that endure into adulthood. Our program challenges and builds confidence by immersing children in the world of wind and water, as they learn to rig and pilot their own sailboats on the stunning Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach, Florida.  We offer a unique sailing program, called our Adaptive Program, that enables special needs children to experience the joys of sailing with our instructors and guides.

But our mission extends beyond just teaching children. We also offer adult instruction using our larger sailboats and catamarans for those looking to embark on their own sailing journey for individual, family and group sails. We also host fun sailing events throughout the year at our outdoor pavilion on the beach.

With over fifty volunteers and an average of more than one hundred students participating during the school year, YSF is making a meaningful impact in our community.

We rely entirely on the generosity and support of local individuals, businesses, and foundations to fund our programs. If you’re interested in learning more about our sailing programs, memberships or making a tax-exempt donation, please visit our website at www.ysfirc.org.
