INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies took a woman into custody following a shooting that left a man dead inside a real estate office at the Vista Royale condominium complex late Monday, sheriff’s officials said. The names of the man and woman were not publicly released.

“It was called in by a female who stated that she had just shot someone. The female told the 911 dispatcher that it was her boyfriend,” said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. “This appears to be an isolated incident. We have an adult female in custody and there is no threat to the public.”

The motive behind the shooting was not immediately available.

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired about 6:43 p.m. at the complex located in the 100 block of Woodland Drive, south of the Vero Beach city limits and east of U.S. 1. The deputies found the man’s body inside the office, Jaworski said.

Deputies took the woman to the sheriff’s office, where she was being questioned about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Jaworski said the woman is a suspect in the case.

This is the second homicide to occur this year in Indian River County. Deputies continue to investigate the fatal stabbing of a homeless man that happened Jan. 16 behind Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel in Gifford.

No arrests have been made in that case.
