INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a Sunday shooting that left a man with a gunshot wound to the leg, officials said. The man had minor injuries and was released from the hospital the same day, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
“(There were) multiple pellets in the shin area of his leg,” Jaworski said. (The pellets) most likely came from a shotgun-type cartridge.”
The injured man went to the emergency room shortly after 9 p.m. at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. The man told officials the shooting happened near the 3300 block of 45th Street in Gifford, Jaworski said.
The motive behind the gunfire was not immediately known. Jaworski said deputies continue to pursue any leads in the case that can lead to identifying the suspect.
“If anyone in the community witnessed this incident or has any information that could be helpful with the investigation, they are encouraged to contact the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous,” Jaworski said.
The incident remains under investigation.
