Derek Gores to Return To Gallery 14 with “More Than Meets the Eye” Feb 1 – 23

As we continue with our 16th  season, Gallery 14 is excited to welcome the return of Derek Gores with his latest solo exhibit entitled: More Than Meets the Eye: Collages by Derek Gores

A Special Opening Reception will be held on Thursday February 1st 5-8pm sponsored by Anthony Romero of Dale Sorensen Real Estate and The Luxe Team.   Another reception will take place as part of the First Friday Gallery Stroll on Friday February 2, 5-8pm.

As part of the month’s festivities, on February 16th at 5:30-7:30pm we will  host ‘Derek Gores Ekphrastic Poetry Event and Reception’ held in collaboration with Gallery 14’s neighbor, the Laura Riding Jackson Foundation. Individual poets will interpret Derek’s art work and will read their poems aloud as they stand side by side with the collages.

Gores’ detailed collages capture an escapist tranquility.  In his newest body of work for Gallery 14, Gores takes a deeper exploration into his dreamlike surrealism with an array of text based pieces!  This new work will feature icons that complement the figurative pieces.   Gores explores, gathers elements and inspirations, and combines them to form a sort of zen narrative.  The story is on the canvas for us to piece together.  Born in New York and a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, the internationally acclaimed collage artist whose clients and collectors include Prada, The Kentucky Derby, National Football League, New England Journal of Medicine, Vienna Austria Tourism Board, Disney, Hotel Bel-Air Beverly Hills, Playboy, Lucasfilm and others.  Gores has extensive experience in partnerships with blue chip brands, properties, and events full of immersive art and experiences.

Also featured are Gallery 14 artist-owners:   Lila Blakeslee, Barbara du Pont, Barbara Landry, Jessica Leto, Mary Ann Hall, Deborah Polackwich, Dorothy Napp Schindel, and Evan Schwarze.  Also, represented artists: Walford Campbell, Jim Cohoe, Melanie Denison, Joan Earnhart,  Terry Green, Viola Pace Knudsen, Mia Lindberg, Francis Mesaros,  Michael Robinson, Carol Staub and Jo Zaza. Gallery 14 is located at 1911 14th Avenue in the Downtown, Historic Arts District of Vero Beach.  Phone: 772 562-5525Visit us at www.gallery14verobeach.com.  Hours: Tuesday – Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-4.
