Coming Up! ‘Art After Dark’ exhibit decks the walls at Museum

You don’t have the time to do them all, but here are some holidays goodies that come without calories.

The Vero Beach Museum of Art presents its third “Art After Dark” digital art exhibition this weekend. The free exhibition includes illustration, experimental film, motion graphics and large-scale digital which are projected onto the exterior walls of the museum. This year, the amount of art has doubled along with the walls onto which the digital art is projected. So, there should be ample room to bring a lawn chair and enjoy a cool evening and purchase food and drinks from food trucks. The artwork shown has been chosen by Brett Phares, the lead curator of Art After Dark. Phares is a New York-based artist working in immersive art and the “built environment.” He co-founded the art exhibition “Digital Graffiti” which the Smithsonian Magazine placed in the world’s top five immersive art experiences. “Art After Dark” runs 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, and Saturday, Dec. 16, outdoors at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Dr., Vero Beach. The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce presents its 2nd annual Winter Wonderland Christmas Fest this weekend at Riverview Park in Sebastian. The event features Santa, the Grinch, Cinderella, vendors, live music and food trucks. Admission is free. Winter Wonderland Christmas Fest runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec.16, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. McKee Botanical Garden’s annual Festival of Lights opens this weekend. The event sets the gardens aglow with thousands of LED lights, holiday displays, festive decorations, intermittent snow flurries, a large-scale model train display, outdoor holiday movies, organ music, local entertainment and yummy holiday goodies. It opens to the public on Friday, Dec. 15, and runs through Dec. 30. The Garden will close its regular visitor hours at 5 p.m., then re-open at 6 p.m. for the Festival of Lights. Admission to the Festival of Lights is $15 general; $13 for seniors 65 years and older and for teenagers 13 to 17 years; $10 for children 2 to 12 years; and free to McKee members and children under 2. Off-site parking is available at 146 Vista Royal Blvd. Complimentary shuttles will get you back and forth from the parking lot to the Gardens. The Vero Beach Women’s Club will hold “Breakfast with Santa” from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. The event includes breakfast, crafts and storytelling by Mrs. Claus. There will also be a few elves on hand to help out. Admission is $5 adults and free to children under 16 years of age. The Women’s Club is at 1534 21st St., Vero Beach. “Waldo’s Secret Art Walk” runs this weekend at Waldo’s Secret Garden. The free event runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and Sunday, Dec. 17. It features the work of Waldo Sexton and works by 30 area artisans. There will also be poetry readings by Sean Sexton.
