The full theatrical production returns with performances in Vero Beach and Palm Beach Gardens.
Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to announce the return of the full theatrical production of Nutcracker on the Indian River! Performances include venues in both Indian River and Palm Beach counties and the return of Nutcracker For All, a subsidized abbreviated Accessible/Family Friendly Series production.
Nutcracker on the Indian River retains all the whimsy and magic of the original ballet but moves the action to the year Vero was founded (1919). Taking the ballet’s heroine, Marie, on a holiday journey from New York to Florida, Fifth Avenue Mansions, Grand Central Station, and rail cars become settings. Instead of a second act featuring candy characters, Marie dreams of the shores of the Indian River Lagoon and is entertained by all manner of local flora and fauna. From land crabs to manatees and river otters to bougainvillea, our production has become an instant classic that takes all the magic of the stage and uses that magic to both entertain and inspire.
This year’s production features over twenty professional dancers and over seventy-five local student dancers, including young people representing Sebastian Elementary School, our area’s Elementary School for the Arts. The Palm Beach Gardens performance will feature students from the prestigious Benjamin School. This year’s performances also include spectacular new scenery for Grand Central Station and new special effects (including a growing Christmas Tree!)
Public performances are slated for 7:00 pm on December 13 in Benjamin Hall, on the campus of the Benjamin School, located at 4875 Grandiflora Road in Palm Beach Gardens, as well as 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm December 30 at the VBHS Performing Arts Center (1707 16th Street) in Vero Beach. Tickets range from $10-$75. Student Rush tickets can be purchased with any valid high school or college student ID at our guest services table one hour before any performance.
Nutcracker for All returns at 7:30 pm December 29, also at the VBHS Performing Arts Center. Nutcracker for All is an abbreviated, Accessible/Family-friendly version of the production geared towards individuals with differing abilities and families with young children. The production features modified audio and visual effects and increased accessible seating and sections for those unable to remain seated throughout the performance. Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to be the only arts organization in the area to offer a fully Accessible/Family Friendly Series that offers professional-level arts experiences to underserved segments of our community. All tickets for Nutcracker for All are subsidized at $10, thanks to the generosity of Ballet Vero Beach’s many funders and donors.
