VERO BEACH — A cold front that brought in cooler air overnight will plummet low temperatures down to the mid-50s this week, forecasters said. The breezy weather will produce 15-to-20 mph wind gusts on the beach, said Brendan Schaper, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
“The winds will continue to be breezy along the coast today and tomorrow,” said Schaper, who cautioned swimmers and boaters of possible southbound-flowing rip currents.
The cooler temperatures will last until Wednesday. Conditions will warm up again Thursday and Friday in Vero Beach, meteorologists said.
“This time a year we see more active cold fronts as we get closer to winter,” Schaper said. “Next week, we’ll be back in 80-degree weather.”
Monday will have a high temperature near 73 degrees, which will drop to about 56 degrees at night, according to meteorologists. Tuesday will have a high near 66 degrees, and a low near 57 degrees.
Wednesday will have a high near 70 degrees, which will dip to about 62 degrees in the evening, forecasters said. Thursday and Friday will have highs in the mid-to-upper 70s, with lows near 70 degrees.
Saturday and Sunday will have highs in the lower 80s, which will fall to the lower 70s at night, meteorologists said.
The cold front came after Vero Beach broke the daily-heat record Sunday when the temperature climbed to 86 degrees. The new record shattered the previous high of 85 degrees set on the same day in 2018.
