Coming Up! Timely ‘Musicians are Superheroes’ concert for kids

Vero Beach’s cultural community is gearing up big time to make sure you have a fun-filled Halloween. It begins with “Musicians are Superheroes: Part II” presented by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. This is a children’s concert, and it will feature music galore from superhero movies such as “The Avengers,” “Superman” and “Wonder Woman.” But it also features an animated original screenplay by New York Times best-selling author Michele Wallace Campanelli. Animations are by Twelve Atlas Pictures and the show is narrated by Space Coast Symphony artistic director Aaron T. Collins. The animated presentation tells the story of a conductor and his band of musical heroes. The concert begins 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in the performing arts center at Vero Beach High School, 1707 16th St. Attendance is open to orchestra passholders. For more information, visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org.

If you’ve never done “The Time Warp,” then it’s high time you give it a try. This crazy dance is just a wee part of the fun at the “Rocky Horror Picture Show Movie with Shadow Actors.” The idea here is to get in on the crazy fun by dressing up like one of the characters in the movie “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” or at least participating by lobbing toast, squirting water, holding newspapers over your head or at least getting up and trying “The Time Warp” dance. In addition, a so-called “shadow cast” performs the high-camp story in front of the screen on which the movie is projected. There will be two presentations of the cult event at 9 p.m. and midnight, Friday, Oct. 27, at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, 2020 San Juan Ave. Admission is buying a $5 concession purchase. And to make it especially easy for newbies, the theater is selling goody bags filled with items that will let you participate. Goody bags cost $5 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information, call 772-562-8300 or visit VeroBeachTheatreGuild.com.

“Ghostlight” is Vero Beach High School’s fall drama production. They call it “musical theatre featuring hilarious characters, unexpected twists and a riotous finale.” The show will have three performances: 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28; plus, a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 29. Tickets are $10. Performances are held at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St. For more information, call 772-564-5537 or visit verobeachperformingarts.com/performances.
