Man charged with trafficking meth, stealing electric bike

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 32-year-old man was jailed after deputies said he stole an electric bike worth between $2,000 and $4,000 from an apartment complex earlier this week. When deputies searched the suspect, Nathan E. Foster, they found a bag containing 16 grams of methamphetamine, enough to yield a drug trafficking charge.

Foster, of the 1900 block of 37th Avenue, Vero Beach, was charged with grand theft, trafficking methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Foster was held Friday at the Indian River County Jail on a $20,500 bond.

Indian River County patrol deputies spotted Foster on the Pedego brand electric bike about 8 p.m. Monday near the 3500 block of 9th Street Southwest. Deputies said the bike was reported stolen earlier that day, though the location was unclear.

Surveillance photos showed the suspect taking the e-bike, reports show. Foster, who deputies said matched the suspect’s description, was wearing the same hat, gray t-shirt, black shorts, shoes and green backpack as the man depicted in the images.

Foster told deputies someone named “Crash” gave him the e-bike at The Palms at Vero apartment complex, located off 4th Terrace.

Deputies searched Foster and found a cloth bag with a glass pipe inside, reports show. The deputies also found a plastic bag with a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Anyone found having 14 grams or more of methamphetamine can be charged with drug trafficking, according to Florida law.

Foster was arrested and booked into the county jail. Foster has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Oct. 19, court records show.
