While you’re learning about area businesses, why not learn a little bit about area culture. You can do just that when the Cultural Council of Indian River County joins Riverside Theatre to present a “Behind the Scenes Tour” from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. This should be a fascinating event for theater lovers. You’ll probably be very surprised taking a peek at the magic that forms theater. The event also includes appetizers and beverages. Cost is $20. Riverside Theatre is at 3250 Riverside Park Dr., Vero Beach. For more information, visit Cultural-Council.org or call 772-770-4857.
As long as you’re thinking Riverside Theatre, consider its robust Comedy Zone that brings in stand-up comics from around the country. This weekend’s Comedy Zone features headliner Myke Herlihy, feature act Kevin White and emcee Jim Harping. Herlihy draws on his 13 years as a bartender to bring on the laughs. He’s shared the stage with Louie Anderson, Michael Winslow and more. Get a little peek at MykeHerlihy.com. White grew up as an avid comic book lover and has had work as an actor with bit parts on HBO. Harping was a trial attorney, law enforcement officer and bass player in rock bands. Add rugby, surfing and sailing to the mix, and you get an unusually well-rounded person with fun comic insights. The comedy shows start at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, and Saturday, Aug. 12. Tickets are $25. But do be sure to give yourself a lot of time before and after those comedy shows. There is plenty of food offerings and drinks to buy. Moreover, there are free outdoor concerts in the Live in the Loop series. Friday’s band is Collins & Company, which covers rock, pop, country, Motown and reggae. Saturday’s band is Luna Pearl, which covers Sade, KC & the Sunshine Band, David Bowie, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Eagles, Nirvana, the B-52s, the Doors, and many more. The free concerts are open to the public. You don’t need to have a ticket to the Comedy Zone to enjoy Live in the Loop. The music sets run 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and 8:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, or to buy tickets, visit RiversideTheatre.com or call 772-231-6990.
