FSGA Women’s Open & Senior Open

Vero Beach, FL – Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club hosted the Florida State Women’s Open and Senior Open, and what a fantastic event it was. Just in the nick of time before another weather delay, Jordan Fischer, an 18 year old incoming LSU freshman, held off defending champion Mariel Galdiano by 1 stroke in the Open Division. Jordan managed to hole a 60 foot putt for birdie on the 17th hole of the recently redesigned River Course. Then, both Jordan and Mariel made par on 18, giving Jordan the victory by 1 and by far her biggest victory. Jordan gets the trophy and all the accolades that come with it, but Mariel being a professional, still gets to take home the biggest check in Florida Women’s Open history, a cool $10,000. Jordan finished with an -8 under par total and Mariel finished at -7 under par.

Jordan, originally from Halle, Germany, now living in Fort Myers, said she loved both the Pete Dye Harbor Course and the Joe Lee-designed River Course. “The greens were in such great shape and we don’t play on greens that are this smooth and quick too often, Josh Breda and his team did an amazing job,” Jordan said.

In the Senior Division, Tammie Green pulled away today with an incredible round of 66 and finished at -12 under par and her second Senior Women’s Open title, winning by five shots over Leta Lindley, both former LPGA touring professionals. Tammie took home the record setting Senior Division check of $6,500.

Weather played a part in this week’s event, with Friday having 2 lightning delays and 3 inches of rain, and Saturday having one lightning delay and ¼” of rain, but both golf courses held up incredibly well after an $8 million dollar renovation. The players had incredible praise for the courses, and the service that was provided by the Food and Beverage and Golf Operations staff.

“It is always an honor to host events of this size, but with the help of our teaching professional Susan Bond, we were able to bring this tournament to Grand Harbor, and these incredible women golfers who just floored all of us,” said Grand Harbor’s Director of Golf, Troy Pare.

At the end of the day, the winner in all of this are not only the players, but the members, who not only got to see incredible golf, but also had the opportunity to share their amazing facility with these talented players and their families and friends as well.
