Nicey Lee Hudson Williams, 95, Gifford
October 16, 1927 – March 12, 2023
Sister Nicey Lee Hudson Williams was born October 16, 1927 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Mr. Sinkie Hudson and Mrs. Lucille Jones Hudson. She was the third child born to this union and the eldest living.
Sister Williams dedicated her life to the Lord at a very young age. She was very active in her church. She sang in the church choir for many years. Sister Williams saw that there was a need for more ushers and decided to leave the choir and joined the usher board where she served faithfully for several years. She was also a trustee of the church and served on the stewardess board. Sister Williams was appointed a Deaconess by the South Florida AME Church Conference as well. She was very dutiful in serving wherever she was most needed.
She received her early childhood education in the Leon County School System in Tallahassee, Florida. After her family moved to Gifford, Florida, she then attended school in Indian River County and later received her high school diploma in the Adult Education Program.
Sister Williams was joined in Holy Matrimony to John Oliver Williams, Sr. on August 19, 1949. To this union, five children were born: Juneva, Phillip, John Jr. , Jacques, and Jakelia.
She was employed by Indian River School District for many years and worked in Food Service and Custodial Care until her retirement.
Sister Williams then became very active in community organizations. She was a member of the NAACP and membership chairman. She was also a member of the Widow’s Club and the Special K Aerobics Program. She was also an active member of the Progressive Civic League of Gifford, FL.
She loved her family dearly. Her home was always a place of genuine hospitality. She and her sisters were excellent cooks and bakers. They made some of the most delicious cakes, pies, cobblers, and breads and were always sharing their delightful mouthwatering culinary dishes with others.
Sister Nicey answered the Father’s call to transition back to Him on March 12, 2023 at Vero Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband: John Oliver Williams, Sr. ; parents: Sinkie and Lucille Jones Hudson; son: John Oliver Williams, Jr. ; brother: Clifford B. Hudson; sisters: Alonza Lee Hudson, Eva Mae Hudson, Beronzy(Baker)Wheeler, Bernice(Russ)Lewis.
She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her sons: Phillip T. Williams of Vero Beach, FL and Jacques L. Williams of Lawrenceville, GA; daughters: Juneva Walters of Vero Beach, FL and Jakelia L. Williams of Atlanta, GA; sisters: Doris H. Wright of Jonesboro, GA, Emma L. Hudson of Nashville, TN; brothers: A. Ronald Hudson, Harry Hudson, Eddie Hudson all of Vero Beach, FL; sisters-in-law: Beulah Posey of Davenport, IA, Flora(Charles)Green of Miami, FL, and Elaine Hagans of Vero Beach, FL; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Public viewing for Nicey Lee Hudson Williams will take place on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 5:00pm-6:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel in Vero Beach, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Mount Zion AME Church in Vero Beach, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery.

Patsy LeWonna Ward, 67
August 25, 1955 – March 25, 2023
Patsy LeWonna Ward was born in Vero Beach, Florida on August 25, 1955, to the late Leatha Mae Ward and Lawyer Smith. She was an only child. She was introduced to a Christian life first in her home and secondly at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Gifford, Florida. Home was the house on 31st, where she was truly a friend to all.
Patsy received her education in the Indian River County School System. She excelled academically, graduating from Vero Beach Senior High School home of the “Mighty Class of 1974”. She was a
member of numerous academic clubs and social organizations. She continued her education at Indian River Junior College in Fort Pierce,
Florida.
She enjoyed a fulfilling career in law enforcement. She was employed with the Department of Juvenile Justice System as a Corrections Officer. Most recently, in 2021 she retired from the Indian River
County Sheriff Department. Patsy met and made many friends during her professional career. She enjoyed talking, making others laugh while being very “direct”. Patsy could walk into a room of strangers and leave the room with “10” new friends. She truly had a heart of gold!
Patsy was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Usher. She truly lived the life she sang and
talked about. After being showed with messages of love, hymns of praise, inspiration and prayers, she went home to be with the Lord on the evening of March 25, 2023. She has now transition from her
labor to reward.
She was married to Samuel Jackson who preceded her in death along with her parents, brother Elder B. Williams.
The heart always has room for precious memories. Those left to cherish her memories her: sister Estelle Williams of Rocelle, NY and numerous cousins and friends. Forever memories are left with childhood friends; Debra Davis Taylor, Melbourne, FL; Lynn Poitier-Owens, Nashville, TN and Carol Carter of Atlanta, GA.

Margarett Denise Kelly, 61
Margarett Denise Kelly was born November 7, 1961 in Vero Beach, Florida to Rev. Samuel A. Sr. and Evangelist Leila Kelly. She attended the local schools in Indian River County and was a graduate of Vero Beach High School Class of 1979. She continued her education endeavors at Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University (FAMU) earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1985 and her master’s degree in education in 1987. Margarett was a devoted God-Fearing, loving, passionate, unique and a reliable woman who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Margarett was employed with Indian River County School District for 37 1/2 years. During those years she worked at Dodgertown Elementary (formerly Clemans Elementary, 1985 – 2005), Vero Beach Elementary (2005 – 2015) and Indian River Academy (20I5 – to present). Margarett was a devoted teacher and was named Teacher of the Year several times. She loved working with her kindergarten students. She had a zest for life and instilled that love of life in the young children she touched daily. She loved teaching children so much, she worked during the summers in Step into Kindergarten from its inception 10 years ago, preparing students for the up-coming school year. Margarett was a champion for all children and will be missed by many.
Margarett was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church, Ft. Pierce, FL. She served in many positions including, New Beginnings Choir, Praise Team, Vacation Bible School cook, kitchen crew, and a substitute Sunday School Teacher. Using her creative talents, she was also instrumental in decorating the church’s first MLK Jr. Day Parade Float.
Margarett was very active in her community as well. She was initiated into (1989) and was a member of the Ft. Pierce Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (FPAC). She was one of the first FPAC committee chairpersons of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Youth Group, the Delteens (presently called the Delta GEMS) and worked with the young ladies for numerous years. Margarett later became the committee chairperson of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy. The Delta Academy allowed her to continue working with the youth as she helped to enrich and enhance their educational needs to save young females from academic failures and low self-esteem. Margarett was a member of FAMU National Alumni Association – St. Lucie County Chapter. She was very active with her local chapter.
Margarett transitioned to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Lewis Jr. , Amos Bennefield Jr. , Drolly Bennefield and Samuel A. Kelly, Jr. ; and sisters, Tevis Bennefield, Dora Hunter, Maggie Lee Burch, Leila Forbes and Susie Mae Laing.
Left to cherish her memories are her devoted husband, Tiplen H. Morris Sr. of Vero Beach, FL; daughters, Shakirra G. Bennefield of Vero Beach, FL and Leila Delacruz of Tallahassee, FL; sons, Steven S. Kelly-Forbes of Greensboro, NC, Andrew T. Bennefield, Sr. and Derric L. Bennefield both of Vero Beach, FL; grandsons, Kaiden A. H. Francois and Kamren A. Francois both of Vero Beach, FL; stepsons, Tiplin H Morris, Jr. and Cameron Morris both of Ft. Pierce, FL brothers, Lem Bennefield and Bobby L. Usher both of Vero Beach, FL; sister, Ernestine Wiggins of Vero Beach, FL; brother-in-law, Alvern Forbes; God daughter, Tamara Troutman; best friends, Loretta Carter and Cynthia Poole and a host of nephews, nieces, in-laws and other family members.
Public visitation for Margarett Denise Kelly will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 4:00pm-6:30pm which will be followed by the Omega Omega Service performed by the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. all taking place at Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral Services will convene on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Gifford Cemetery.

Johnny Lee Shedrick, 67, Wabasso
January 10, 1956 – April 10, 2023
Mr. Johnny Lee Shedrick was born to the parents, the late Recy Smith and Mattie Ree Smith-London on January 10, 1956 in Springfield, Georgia. They relocated to Wabasso, FL. He was a life-long resident of Indian River County. He attended Indian River County Public Schools and was a lover of math and science. He departed this life on Monday, April 10, 2023 at his home in Wabasso, FL at the age of 67.
During his lifetime, a local Deck and Boat Dock Builder employed him for many years. his colleagues were amazed at how he could align those large wooden piling in the river without measuring. When measured, they were aligned. He was one of the best in Indian River County. Johnny was kind, loving, and helpful to everyone who knew him. One of his recent highlights was his trip to Kennedy Space Center. He so enjoyed himself and told everyone who would listen. What a joy that was. . . now his lift-off.
He was preceded in death by his father: Recy Smith; mother: Mattie Ree London; brothers: Leartis Shedrick and Terry Smith, Sr. ; sister: Frankie Mae Gervin.
Remaining to cherish his precious memories are his two loving daughters: Jacqueline Shedrick of Vero Beach, FL and Jennifer Shedrick of Sebastian, FL; two sons: Johnny Lee Shedrick, Jr. and Jamard William Lee of Wabasso, FL; two brothers: Franklin D. Shedrick(Iris) of Palm Bay, FL and Joel Shedrick(Gloria) of St. Petersburg, FL; five devoted sisters: Kathaleen Ross of Vero Beach, FL, Lottie Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL, Gloria Petithomme(Roger) and Cietrus Dawkins(Terry) both of Wabasso, FL and Olivia Bradshaw of Sebastian, FL; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Charmaine Joy Cordy, 58, Vero Beach
April 12, 1965 – May 27, 2023
Charmaine Joy Cordy, famously known as “Charmaine Cordy,” daughter of the late Deacon Wellesley Pryce & Admira Pryce, was born on April 12,1965 in St. Catherine, Jamaica. Charmaine attended Ewarton Secondary School in Jamaica West Indies. Charmaine acquired her Cosmetologist License while residing in Jamaica. She then moved to New York City in 1994 where she worked beavering as a store clerk. She eventually received her Certified Nursing Assistant License. With determination, prayer, love, and due diligence she was able to relocate her sisters and parents from Jamaica to the United States. Charmaine eventually relocated to Vero Beach, FL where she became a member of the Calvary Evangelistic Lighthouse & Devine Holiness Church in Port St. Lucie, FL.
Charmaine also studied at Indian River State College receiving her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. She later returned to college where she completed and received her Registered Nursing License. Charmaine was passionate about her career, achievements, and accolades. However, her most important achievement in life was the relationship she had with Our Lord and Savior. Charmaine also enjoyed spending time with family, listening to music and traveling.
On May 27,2023 Charmaine Cordy passed away at the age of 58.
She is survived by her mother: Admira Pryce; sisters: Glestine Williams, Suzette Pryce, Carol Pryce; brothers: Glenroy Williams, Howard Pryce, Clinton Pryce, Wilbert Pryce, Trover Pryce; and a host of nieces, nephews, many close friends and loved ones.
Public visitation for Charmaine Cordy will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 10:00am-11:00am at Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel in Vero Beach, FL which will be followed by her funeral service which will begin promptly at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Hazel Lee Frazier, 79, Gifford
December 19, 1943 – June 7, 2023
Hazel Lee Frazier was born on December 19, 1943 in Ludowici, GA, south of Savannah, to the late Donald L. Frazier, Sr. and Mabel Mitchell Frazier. He attended the local schools in his community. In his adult life he worked at Dodgertown, Inc. for a number of years. Hazel also worked in Lawn Services in the community of Gifford where he resided until he went home to be with the Lord. He was a great supporter of his community. He also was a member of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
On June 7, 2023 in the late afternoon, Hazel Lee Frazier departed this life surrounded by his daughter and family. He was preceded in death by his parents: Donald L. Frazier, Sr. and Mabel Mitchell Frazier; siblings: Alexander, Jennette, Donald Jr., Valerie, Beretha, Thelma, and Andrew.
Left to carry on his legacy and cherish his memory are his daughter: Jacqueline Terry; his sister: Katie Frazier; and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
