Driving Success is proud to share that the organization was able to DRIVE SUCCESS for another young woman in Indian River County.
While this week we celebrated independence day, I wanted to share another story of freedom and independence. Six months ago, Ms. Kat left her home with one small bag, $150 in her pocket and a three month old baby girl strapped to her chest. She found her way to a local domestic violence shelter where she remained for a few weeks. This is where she could begin to rest and heal. Soon after, Ms. Kat relocated to another local family homeless shelter where she was able to find the resources necessary to help her move forward. Ms. Kat was able to find an at home daycare center to care for her young baby so she could find work. With great strength and determination, Ms. Kat was able to secure a waitressing job and save enough money to obtain an apartment. Ms. Kat is a very strong woman and credits this amazing community of non-profit organizations who came together to help when she needed it most.
Ms. Kat was using a rideshare twice a day to drop her baby off at daycare and then get to work. Doing the reverse at the end of the day. Her rideshare bill was averaging $60 per day. Ms. Kat was working hard to pay her rent, but was still visiting food pantries so that she could use her money to pay for her transportation.
Ms. Kat found out about the Driving Success program through partner non-profit organizations in the community. She quickly researched the program to see if she would qualify. Ms. Kat filled out the application, submitted all necessary documentation and received her “new to her” 2004 Volvo S60 on June 26, 2023. This vehicle was donated by a private donor and went through all necessary mechanical and safety checks.
Being awarded this vehicle has helped to provide Ms. Kat with the independence she needs to move forward with working and raising her baby who is now nine months old.
Driving Success has the vision that all individuals in our community have reliable transportation. Our mission is to increase independence and self-sufficiency in our community by providing a path to vehicle ownership for hardworking individuals and families to keep them working and driving toward success.
We can only do this work through the generosity of our community. Vehicle donations and financial contributions help fund this need. To find out more about our program visit us online at www.drivingsuccessirc.org.
